TUESDAY, March 13

The La Raza Law Students at the University of San Diego School of Law are honored to present:Crossing Over, An Immigration Debate PanelAmbassador Jeffrey Davidow, Lilia Velasquez, and Ruben Navarrette Jr. will be discussing immigration in America.-Ambassador Jeffrey Davidow- Ambassador Davidow assumed the presidency of the Institute of the Americas on June 1, 2003. Upon completion of 34 years in the State Department, he retired as America's highest ranking diplomat, one of only three people to hold the personal rank of Career Ambassador. From 1998-2002 he served as the U.S. ambassador to Mexico.-Lilia Velasquez- Ms. Velasquez is an internationally known speaker and lectures regularly on immigration, human rights, and refugee issues. For the last five years, her practice has focused on defending women's rights, particularly victims of domestic violence, refugee women and victims of trafficking for forced prostitution or labor. As a specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law, her practice is devoted entirely to immigration cases. She is also a professor at California Western School of Law.-Ruben Navarrette Jr. is a nationally syndicated columnist with the Washington Post Writers Group. The second-generation Mexican-American is one of fewer than 10 Latino syndicated columnists in the United States, and one of the country's youngest syndicated columnists overall. The two-time Harvard graduate is also an editorial writer and board member for The San Diego Union-Tribune.
