Tell the Governor About Issues Important to APIAs!
AACRE Asian Americans for Civil Rights & Equality
Dear Friend: Thank you to all of you who have been supporting our work throughout the legislative session this year. We are now in the home stretch with 3 bills going to the Governor's desk! The Governor will be spending thenext several weeks deciding whether or not to sign these bills into law. We need to make sure that he understands how important these bills arefor the Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) community! Urge himto sign the following bills today:
- AB 295 (Lieu) will enhance state data to reflect the diversity of APIA communities. Current law recognizes the importance of disaggregateddata and requires data to be collected for approximately 10 APIA ethnicgroups; however, many groups are not included. AB 295 will requirecertain departments to collect additional data for Hmong, Tongan, Thai, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Malaysian, Indonesian, Taiwanese, and Fijian communities. Support accurate data for all APIA ethnicgroups! Visit www.aacre.org/action/actionAB295governor.
- AB 614 (Eng) is a bill designed to improve access to democracy for ourstate's limited English proficient voters. Help improve our elections compliance with state and federal requirements to get voters access toneeded translations and bilingual poll workers! Visit www.aacre.org/action/actionAB614governor .
- AB 394 (Levine) will address bias-related discrimination andharassment in schools. Increasingly, bias-related discrimination andharassment is striking youth, as more students report feeling unsafe in their own schools, and become subject to harassment based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability, sometimes leading tobias-related violence. Help ensure schools are providing policies toprotect students from discrimination! Visit www.aacre.org/action/actionAB394governor.
Sincerely,Vivian Huang
