BBQ Volunteers Needed

We are in need of volunteers for the upcoming APALSA Food Fundraiser. If you are interested, we will be preparing food Tuesday night at JSJ's place starting at 6:00 to 7:00 pm. If you can't make it, you can still help cook and serve Wednesday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Proceeds will be used to help subsidize member's fees for the Diversity Formal. If interested, please email us and we will give you the address.

We will be serving korean bbq, dumplings, rice, salad and drink for $6. Come out, enjoy good food and watch Shaolin Soccer.

The La Raza Law Students at the University of San Diego School of Law are honored to present:Crossing Over, An Immigration Debate PanelAmbassador Jeffrey Davidow, Lilia Velasquez, and Ruben Navarrette Jr. will be discussing immigration in America.-Ambassador Jeffrey Davidow- Ambassador Davidow assumed the presidency of the Institute of the Americas on June 1, 2003. Upon completion of 34 years in the State Department, he retired as America's highest ranking diplomat, one of only three people to hold the personal rank of Career Ambassador. From 1998-2002 he served as the U.S. ambassador to Mexico.-Lilia Velasquez- Ms. Velasquez is an internationally known speaker and lectures regularly on immigration, human rights, and refugee issues. For the last five years, her practice has focused on defending women's rights, particularly victims of domestic violence, refugee women and victims of trafficking for forced prostitution or labor. As a specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law, her practice is devoted entirely to immigration cases. She is also a professor at California Western School of Law.-Ruben Navarrette Jr. is a nationally syndicated columnist with the Washington Post Writers Group. The second-generation Mexican-American is one of fewer than 10 Latino syndicated columnists in the United States, and one of the country's youngest syndicated columnists overall. The two-time Harvard graduate is also an editorial writer and board member for The San Diego Union-Tribune.

3L Graduation - Cap and Gown

All students who plan to participate in the May commencement ceremonies should plan to attend the Bookstore's GradFest on Wednesday, March 7 from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. or Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

You will be able to order your caps and gowns, graduation announcements, and diploma frames at that time. You will also have the opportunity to have your portrait taken in full grad regalia with no additional sitting fee. There will be giveaways both days of GradFest.

Diversity Week, Formal & Updates

Diversity Week: Diversity Week will be held March 12-18, 2007. Come out and support the Diversity Committee throughout the week. Various panels, bbqs, screenings and other events will be held. We will also be volunteering at the Special Olympics March 17th.

APALSA will be having its yearly barbecue fundraiser on Wednesday March 14, 2007 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Tuesday night, we will be cooking some Korean bbq, dumplings, rice, and salad. If you are interested in helping, please let us know. We need all the help we can get.

Diversity Formal: Diversity Committee will be hosting Diversity Formal at the Degheri Alumni Center on Friday, March 23, 2007. This event includes attorneys, judges and law students from San Diego. APALSA will be subsidizing part of the fees for APALSA members. Please RSVP as soon as you can so we can get an accurate head count. Attached is the pdf. Please distribute this to other students, attorneys and judges.

General Meeting: We will be having a general meeting for cabinet elections and Diversity Formal on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. If you are interested in running for a position, please submit your statement of candidacy no later than Monday, March 19, 2007.
